Teaching with PowerPoint
Hi everyone, how it's going ? Slowly we are heading to the end of the subject and I just realized that I was kinda delayed in posting for the PowerPoint use in the class since this teaching tool is really important.
Each of us has used PowerPoint as a means of making a presentation in front of an audience just like in the picture above .And we all know it's hard and it demands hard work ,concentration and rehearsing. Although ,this method cannot be used only to make presentations on certain topics but also to teach students different skills of the target language in our case.
In many ways, PowerPoint can be a very useful tool to present material in the classroom and encourage students learning .It can be used to project visuals which would otherwise be difficult to bring in the class. However here there are some useful tips for creating more effective slides.
As research has shown ,reading and listening seem to conflict cognitive processes, meaning that the students can either read the slides or listen to you ;they cannot do both at the same how time. However our brains can handle simultaneous listening to a speaker and seeing relevant ,visual material .So to avoid this problem it is important for the slides not to be text heavy instead organized and clear.
PowerPoint slides need to be designed in a way that includes the opportunity for feedback. For example, this usually takes the form of listing questions or showing pictures on the screen without descriptions so that the students can guess.
Teaching with PowerPoint should help students organize their notes ,not just be their notes .This is a particular danger for students who grew up accustomed to receiving PowerPoint notes to study from.Sone may require convincing that notes should be taken beyond what is already on the slides.
There are plenty of things to bear in mind while using PowerPoint in the class actually but I mentioned here some tips which I find very essential .I have tried to stay very loyal to these tips while preparing my presentation and if any of you wants to share other tips or ideas is very welcome to comment below .
Thank you !

I have also stayed loyal to the tips you have mentioned in your post. I think that the best you can do with a PowerPoint slide is avoiding including too much information. You can use a slide to illustrate ideas and not just present ideas.
ReplyDeleteI think that you can use Ppt to create unique games based on the topic that you are presenting to your students.
ReplyDeletePPP are always fun and something new,you never fall into monotony when using correctly PP.
